Canada: Wholesale Trade Rises

Canadian wholesale trade increased 2.3 percent from June, led by agricultural supplies and building materials, Statistics Canada said. Analysts on average had forecast a gain of 0.5 percent in the month. Sales rose 2.2 percent. Gains were registered in six of seven wholesale sectors, with only food, beverages and tobacco showing weakness. The top contributor to the sales growth was the 6 percent jump in the products category that included fertilizer sales. Building materials rose 4.8 percent and sales of machinery and equipment climbed 3.1 percent.
